Q&A with Judith Marilyn

ST: Hello Judith!  Thank you so much for taking the time to be interviewed for the Style Tastemaker’s launch week!  We are so happy to have you as our kick off Q&A.  Let’s get started.  Tell us a little about yourself and your back ground.

JM: I was born and raised right here in Minneapolis, MN and I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I love Minneapolis and feel really lucky to be from such a gem of a city.  I have a cat named Zelda and she’s pretty much my partner in crime.  Most of my friends and family consider me a crazy cat lady, and quite frankly, I’m totally cool with it.

ST: How did you get into styling?

JM: It was by complete chance in all honesty.  I had recently graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Psychology.  I had initial plans to go to graduate school to further my degree, but decided to take a year off and explore other areas.  I have always had an extreme love for design and well curated photographs but never really considered making it a full time job.  Through connections, I stumbled upon an internship opportunity at Style-Architects assisting their freelance stylist at the time.  Eventually within a year I moved up to freelancing for SA, while also managing a high end office supply retail store.  Through my experiences I started to realize how much I loved working with product.  I decided to leave Style-Architects after about 2.5 years and branched out on my own with styling, focusing mainly on props.

ST: Your Instagram feed as a whole is so beautiful!  How do you blend and keep all of your photos so cohesive?

JM: First and foremost, thank you!  I would say that I typically just try and stay toward the same color tone within all of my photos so that they blend nicely together.

ST: What is your favorite color palette of the moment?

JM: I’m always a sucker for neutrals and softer palettes.  I typically steer more toward cooler tones in my style.

ST: Who’s work inspires you?

JM: Oh god, tough question.  I feel like there are so many people that inspire me.  If I had to choose one though, I would definitely say Alexa Chung.  She’s such a badass.

ST: Thank you so much Judith!  It was great getting a behind the scenes peak into your world.  We can’t wait to see what you do next!  To find out more about Judith you can find her on Instagram @judithmarilyn_.
